I take another walk
To talk to the
Specters of
The past walls
Cold sidewalks
Cool my burning
Crown of thoughts
My hometown, my
Bitter-sweet soulmate
When all
My dearest are gone
Memory ghosts embrace my soul
When I take another
Walk through
The streets that once
Spoke with all the
Tongues after
The Tower of Babel tumbled and made us
Fight like mad dogs
I pass like a shadow
To whisper to the visions of the places
Filled with scents of the women
I once loved
Stare at windows
To see the faces
That are long gone
I smirk at
A piece of lawn
Where the proud
Ritz Hotel
Would tease vanity
Like a smartly-dressed lady
Among the rugged mob
I tread down the
Cracked pavements
Where the old Synagogue’s dome
Used to softly caress the
Belly of the grey-blue sky
Hear the silent
Screams of women and children
Burnt alive inside
Swastika praetorians had to feed
Their hate also
In my hometown
